Which, frankly, I'm not holding my breath for.ĮDIT: Haven't tried recently, but at least a couple years ago, the arrangement between craigslist and Google seemed to allow Google to show craigslist pages only after they became about 7 days old. It's the best I've seen so far, and I think will continue to be, at least until craigslist themselves decides to increase their radius of 'nearby' areas. It saves you having to find the obscure little craigslist that is most central to a region, and clicking all the nearby area buttons yourself. Using SearchTempest as I described above, you can get that whole area by looking at just 3-4 of their defined regions. Craigslist is rather hawkish about this, just like RCA with their superhet patents in the 1920s. So don't expect it to still be there and work 6 months from now. If you find a third party website that can do it today, it means they're violating craigslist TOUs in some way or another. Given that Minneapolis and Cincinnati are something like 750 miles apart, there is no local craigslist at some central point that sweeps the entire region from Minneapolis to Cincinnati using nearby search. And those queries are limited by the distance craigslist allows you to search 'nearby,' which from my poking around, seems to be about a 200-300 mile radius. In the last couple years, craigslist has rolled out functionality to allow searching "nearby areas." The best a third party like SearchTempest can do presently, without getting sued by craigslist, is to formulate a query for you on craigslist that includes nearby areas from some central craigslist. So all of these secondary websites have to live within those TOUs, or they receive cease and desist notices from craigslist. One thing to understand, is that craigslist's Terms Of Use expressly forbid scraping craigslist and aggregating the results. Measure it with a micrometer, mark it with chalk, cut it with a chainsaw. Overall, it's a WHOLE LOT simpler than it was a year ago. When I'm done looking at one, I close that craigslist tab, go back to the SearchTempest tab, and click on the link for next region down the list. (picture below) Click on a region's link, and a new tab opens in the browser that redirects to one craigslist kind of central in the region, with a search query that shows all of the results in all of the CLs inside the region. What I get is a single page, with all of the nation's craigslists organized as a link per region, nearest region first. On the results page, change the slider from "Single List Results" to " Direct Results." You can twiddle with your Preferences if you like, I generally turn off everything except craigslist (no eBay, Amazon, or Oodle). What: radio (that's my usual search string)Ĭlick on the Search button. I hadn't tried SearchTempest in a year or so, but I just went back and gave it a whirl, and I love the way it works now.
